TSN Reports James van Riemsdyk Has Been Traded To The Rangers, Immediately Deletes It
Earlier today, TSN1050, TSN’s flagship radio station, tweeted out that Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk had been traded to the Rangers.
Huge news for hockey bloggers alike. The Leafs dish one of their best players, riding on a very team-friendly contract, to a Rangers team looking to extend their window.. the entire Eastern Conference is now on watch. Oh but they forgot the fact that, y’know, the deal never actually happened.
Now I understand stuff like this will happen from time to time. Some minor rumor will grow wings and once it does there’s no telling just how for it may go.
The real issue here is the fact that it’s 2016 and people are still saying that accounts were “hacked?” When I picture someone hacking something I see a dude with a half dozen computers in front of him, some heavy ass techno playing in the background, and a dude behind him screaming “WE HAVE TO GET INTO THE MAINFRAME BEFORE THIS WHOLE THING BLOWS.” Not some kid trying to guess the password of a twitter account so he can fake trade news.
In reality this was Intern A at TSN received a text from Intern B who is in Sales over at MLSE. Intern B told Intern A he’s heard that a deal involving JVR and the Rangers was coming. Intern A had some hot twitter fingers and tried to dunk on Bob Mckenzie by breaking the news first. Well, it backfired, and now Intern A will most likely be looking for a new job come tomorrow.
You weren’t hacked, you were had. Simple as that.
PS – You don’t see stuff like this happening at ESPN, a sports network with real integrity, now do you?
PPS – my poop meter was at an 1,000 when I first saw ‘JVR to the Rangers’
